Drop-in Creative Writing Workshop

Starting in May, we'll be hosting a free community writing class every Monday from 5-7 PM through the end of June. Author and creative writing instructor Rachel Lyon will lead the class in guided exercises; conduct short lessons on craft; and offer in-class guidance and feedback on works-in-progress. The class is open to writers of all experience levels. Join for all eight weeks, or just drop in once or twice, to get a feel for things!
Rachel is the author of SELF PORTRAIT WITH BOY, which was a finalist for the Center for Fiction's First Novel Prize and the International Dublin Literary Award. Her short work has appeared in One Story, Longreads, and Electric Literature’s Recommended Reading, among other publications.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Ashfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Learn how to care for your plants and start your garden with a hands-on planting project in some not so ordinary containers!

Local high schools, public libraries, and the one and only Ashfield Lake House are teaming up to bring you a series of open mics for teens. These will be held outdoors on the restaurant’s deck and are free to all. Performers can sign up for 5-10 minute slots upon arrival– first come, first served! Snacks provided.

Teen Writing Workshop with Rage Hezekiah

The Ashfield Lake House, 141 Buckland Rd, Ashfield, MA 01330, USA
In this generative workshop, we’ll explore the power of images in contemporary writing. Guided by examples from notable poems and essay discussions of craft, writers in this workshop will gain tools to sharpen sensory details in their writing.
This is free and open to all young adult writers. We'll be meeting outdoors on the deck of the Ashfield Lake House. The venue is ADA accessible.
Facilitator Rage Hezekiah is a New England-based poet and educator, who earned her MFA from Emerson College. She has received fellowships from Cave Canem, MacDowell, and The Ragdale Foundation, and is the recipient of the Saint Botolph Foundation's Emerging Artists Award. Her poems have been anthologized, co-translated, and published internationally.
