Drop-in Creative Writing Workshop
July 10, 2024 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
From July 10 to August 21, we'll be hosting a free community writing class every Wednesday from 6:30-8PM. Author and creative writing instructor Rachel Lyon will lead the class in guided exercises; conduct short lessons on craft; and offer in-class guidance and feedback on works-in-progress. The class is open to writers of all experience levels. Join for all eight weeks, or just drop in once or twice, to get a feel for things!
Rachel Lyon is author of the novels Self-Portrait with Boy, a finalist for the Center for Fiction's 2018 First Novel Prize, and Fruit of the Dead, which was named a most anticipated book of 2024 by outlets including Elle, Oprah Daily, and People magazine. Rachel’s short work has appeared in publications such as One Story, The Rumpus, and Electric Literature’s Recommended Reading. A teacher of creative writing for various institutions, most recently Bennington College, and cofounder of two reading series, Ditmas Lit and the Dream Away Reading Series, Rachel lives with her husband and two young children in Western Massachusetts.

Wild Edibles in the Yard and Garden with Arianna Collins

Have you been asking yourself, “What plants, that are nutritious and good tasting, can I eat, that are free and readily available on the ground and in the trees?” Have you ever gotten a boo-boo while out and about and wondered if there was something easy to grab in the field that could help heal the ouchie? Naturalist, wild edibles enthusiast, and Ashfield resident Arianna Alexsandra Collins is here to help you answer these questions. Join in a little walk-about on Saturday, July 13 from 4:00-5:30pm in Ashfield that will help you identify the flora that you can eat and/or use medicinally. Trailside nibbles and sample dishes and drinks will be presented and taste testing is encouraged. Instructions on how to incorporate seasonal wild edibles into your meals will be covered as well as simple food preservation techniques.

Tony(a) Lemos works at the intersection of art and herbalism, and has worked as a community herbalist/educator for over 25 years helping people connect with plants as allies for healing (physical /emotional and spiritual). She is inspired by all aspects of the natural world and the elements and works actively with the alchemical processes of Green World, be it eco-printing, alternative photography methods or foraging and medicine making. Her artwork and healing work is process based centering around relationship, well-being, creativity, connection and co-existence. She believes art and creativity to be an integral part of the healing process.
