Writing through Art Poetry Workshop with Jan Freeman
Writing through Art Poetry Workshop with Jan Freeman
May 24, 2024 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Clark Art Institute, 225 South St, Williamstown, MA 01267, USA
The Belding Memorial Library, along with the Ashfield Local Cultural Council and the Clark Art Institute, is co-sponsoring a poetry workshop led by Ashfield's Jan Freeman. The Writing Through Art Poetry Workshop will take place from 2:30–4:30 on Friday, May 24 at the Clark in Williamstown, MA. New and experienced poets from Ashfield and the surrounding hilltowns are welcome to attend. We will be writing in response to paintings in the permanent collection of the museum, using art as a portal to open memories, emotions, and the imagination to create new poems. Together we will read poetry by established poets, participate in an exercise to open our perceptions, and share drafts. The goal is to find new and exciting ways of expressing ourselves!
Jan Freeman is the author of three books of poetry, most recently Blue Structure, a chapbook, and a new manuscript, The Odyssey of Yes and No. A recent MacDowell fellow, her poems have appeared in numerous literary journals, including Poetry, Plume, The Brooklyn Rail, Barrow Street, Salamander, and the North American Review. She is the former director and the founder of Ashfield's Paris Press (now part of Wesleyan University Press) and teaches the MASS MoCA Writing Through Art Poetry Retreats, as well as a weekly Zoom poetry workshop.
