Join local maker Andrea Caluori for an afternoon of sewing low waste clothing garments in the spirit of earth day! This is a great class for beginner sewists who want to get into garment making construction, but are unsure where to start. Andrea will go over what zero waste and low waste sewing entails, share a collection of resources for future projects, explain how to take your own measurements, the difference between positive/negative ease and sew with you, step-by-step, a low-waste dress or top to wear this summer!
Class instruction is FREE. The library will purchase patterns for participants, but participants are expected to bring their own fabric, sewing notions, and sewing machine. A materials list will be sent ahead of the class with enough time to source materials. Limited to 8.

Mint Distillation Workshop with Sweet Birch Herbals
Mint Distillation Workshop with Sweet Birch Herbals
July 19, 2025 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Mint is used in many products world wide, but did you know that Ashfield has a rich history of distilling mint beginning in the late 1800s? Hannah Morano, founder of Sweet Birch Herbals is hosting a mint distillation workshop from harvest to hydrosol at her farm in Ashfield. Join us in learning the benefits of mint while immersing our senses in the aromatic steam. We will participate in the entire process from harvesting the plant to watching it transform into oil and hydrosol with a copper steam distiller. Handouts will be provided and the option to purchase mint hydrosol made at the workshop. Registration required!
This event is sponsored by the Belding Memorial Library Spice and Herb Club. The workshop is funded in part by a grant from the Ashfield Local Cultural Council, a local agency that is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
